〜 Natural Voice and Intuitive Singing 〜
Singing as Meditation and Embodiment Practice
This is an embodied vocal training rooted in Dhrupad, the meditative tradition of Indian classical singing, and Nāda Yoga (the Yoga of Sound). It brings together vocal technique, somatic awareness, breath, and musical exploration to cultivate a voice that is both deeply rooted in its natural expression and free to develop its musical potential.
Throughout the process, singing is inseparable from embodied awareness. You'll learn to sense and release unnecessary tension, listen from within, and allow sound to emerge from a more open and connected place. Technical development and natural expression go hand in hand.
Indian Classical Music
In the ancient Indian classical music (Dhrupad style), sound and music are explored as a meditation. This music was originally used for that, and was mainly sung in the temples.
Drawing from this tradition, in these classes we explore in depth the art of listening and sounding. We develop breath awareness, open the voice, cultivate vocal flexibility, and discover the depth of singing with a drone. We begin to understand pitch, resonance, scales, melodic movement, and the subtle art of shaping sound.
Intuitive Singing
Gradually, we cultivate the confidence and sensitivity to move beyond techniques and fixed patterns, discovering the joy of intuitive singing and improvisation. Through expressing our natural and intuitive voice, we give awakened consciousness a home in the body and the environment. Singing becomes a way to consciously anchor in the here and now, and spontaneously express what words cannot express.
